Overview
The DEWALT DCB205 is a genuine 20V MAX 5.0Ah battery — the mid-capacity workhorse of DeWalt's 20V lineup, priced at $61.31. It fits the entire 20V MAX tool family, which for DeWalt owners is the real value: buy once, run it across drills, drivers, saws, and most of the rest of the 20V catalog.
We haven't bench-tested this pack for runtime or charge speed. What we can tell you plainly is what it fits, what it costs relative to the rest of DeWalt's 20V MAX lineup, and where a compact pack might serve you better.

Who it's for
The DCB205 is the sensible default for anyone building a 20V MAX kit who wants real runtime without stepping up to FlexVolt pricing. It's a strong match for daily-use drills, drivers, and mid-draw tools. If your tools are mostly light-duty and you want minimum weight, DeWalt's compact 2.0Ah DCB203 is cheaper and lighter; if you're running high-draw 60V-capable tools, you'd want a FlexVolt pack instead.
Compatibility
Every genuine DeWalt 20V MAX battery, including the DCB205, fits every 20V MAX tool. It will not power FlexVolt-exclusive 60V tools like larger table saws or 60V chainsaws — those need a FlexVolt pack, which also happens to step down and run 20V MAX tools. A DCA1820-style adapter exists for older legacy 18V tools, but that's a separate accessory, not something built into this battery.
Why genuine over aftermarket
This is a genuine DEWALT pack, which means DEWALT's 3-year warranty applies and the battery-management electronics match what DeWalt's tools expect. Aftermarket 20V MAX-compatible packs are cheaper, but they carry no DeWalt warranty and no guarantee the protection circuitry is tuned the same way — worth weighing against the modest price difference.
Buying notes
At $61.31, this sits above the compact DCB203 (2.0Ah, ~$39) and well below the FlexVolt DCB609 (9.0Ah, ~$152). There's no fuel gauge on this pack, so you won't get a charge-level readout without checking the tool or charger.
My Verdict
The DCB205 is DEWALT's genuine mid-capacity 20V MAX pack — a safe, warranty-backed default for anyone building out a 20V MAX kit.
