Read this before you buy

  • We have not tested this adapter for fit, safety, or performance — a working Amazon listing and buy button is not proof of any of those things.
  • DEWALT excludes 18V radios, DCS370 Type 1 band saws, DC020/DC022 work lights, and 18V nailers; check the current manual for the complete list.
  • DEWALT limits compatible packs to specified 20V MAX XR batteries from 1.5Ah through 5.0Ah; FLEXVOLT batteries are not supported.
  • Remove the battery from the adapter before charging. The adapter itself is not a charger and must not be inserted into a charger.
  • The adapter can remain attached to the tool, but DEWALT instructs users to remove the battery from the adapter before storing it.

Our take

This is DEWALT's supported bridge for many legacy 18V tools, but it is not universal: only specified 20V MAX XR packs are allowed, FLEXVOLT is excluded, and several legacy tool categories do not work. Check the manual's exact exclusions before buying.

Upsides

  • Made by DeWalt itself, not a third-party clone, so the mechanical fit and contacts are engineered to DeWalt's own tolerances
  • Lets you keep using older 18V XRP-era tools with newer 20V MAX batteries instead of retiring them
  • Widely sold and reordered — not a fly-by-night listing

Risks & downsides

  • It does not support FLEXVOLT batteries or every legacy 18V tool; DEWALT publishes explicit exclusions
  • Charger not included, and the battery must be removed from the adapter for charging
  • Does nothing for you if your real goal is running new 20V MAX tools off an old 18V pack — this only goes 20V MAX battery to 18V tool
  • We have not independently verified runtime, heat behavior, or long-term durability
